Build farmhouse-style storage box for vegies
![]() STEP 1: Mark out the pieces
Sand timber with 220-grit abrasive paper, working up to 320-grit. Mark up pieces (see Diagram 1) allowing for the saw kerf, and position the hinge panel (top) above the front. Apply two coats of lacquer, sanding between. Cut pieces with a sliding compound mitre saw. Photo: |
In the old days, timber veggie boxes were kept on benchtops or in cupboards. This one captures the homestead spirit of storage that was made to last. Use traditional-style brass hinges and vents, and quality timber such as maple or American oak available from Builders Warehouse, or can be ordered by them. Complete it with semi-gloss clear finish, or by hand-rubbing smooth with an oil finish.
