Power tools run via an air compressor are an increasingly popular alternative to standard power tools. They’re often cheaper to buy, safer to run and have a higher power-to-weight ratio, enabling a smaller, lighter tool to accomplish the same task.

Most have a holding tank filled with air that’s compressed by a pump driven by a motor. Air flows through a hose powering the tool, and the larger the tank the longer it operates. Air release is controlled by a pressure gauge that powers the motor when the tank is low and turns it off at maximum pressure.
