Australia Day 2010 Event Guide
From picnics to parades and fun-runs to spectacular fireworks displays, there's plenty of ways to celebrate Australia Day this year. Find out what's happening in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane, Perth, and Tasmania on 26th January 2010.
Australia Day in Sydney
Sydney’s Biggest Backyard
Location: Hyde Park, Sydney
Begins: 10am
Cost: Free
Head to Sydney’s Hyde Park for family activities, entertainment (featuring Aussie band Mental As Anything), wine, barbeques, food, fun and relaxation.
Darling Harbour Australia Day Spectacular and Fireworks
Location: Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour, Sydney
Begins: 7pm
Cost: Free
There’s plenty to see here - the harbour boat parade, the arrival of the Governor of NSW, the NSW Premier’s message, a show-stopping performance by the 2009 Australian Idol winner, and the Australia Day Spectacular including a massive fireworks extravaganza over Cockle Bay.
The Rocks
Location: The Rocks, Sydney
Begins: 11am
Cost: Free
See more than than 70 Australian musicians including Bertie Blackman, Dappled Cities, Ash Grunwald, Jeff Lang, Paul Capsis and Shellie Morris across six outdoor stages. This spectacular concert will run for for ten hours throughout The Rocks.
Australia Day in Melbourne
Australia Day Breakfast
Location: Federation Square, Melbourne
Begins: 8:30 am
Cost: Free
This is a fund raising event for the Breast Cancer Network. Collect your free cheeseymite scroll, a cup of tea and a banana! Get in early to avoid missing out on your free breakfast.
Australia Day People's March
Location: Swanston Street, Melbourne
Begins: 11:00 am
Cost: Free
The People’s March is a celebration of community and culture. The march, which runs down Swanston Street, is a mixture of Australians from all walks of life.
Australia Day Fireworks
Begins: 9:15pm
Location: Federation Square, Melbourne
Cost: free
The dazzling Australia Day fireworks in Melbourne can be viewed from the north bank (city side) of the Yarra in front of Federation Square.

Australia Day in Adelaide
Australia Day in the City Concert
Begins: 6pm
Location: Elder Park, King William Road, Adelaide
Cost: Free
The number one Aussie rock diva Vanessa Amorosi will headline the stage of this Australia Day Concert, topped off with a fireworks spectacular as the event finale.
Australia Day in the City Parade
Begins: 6pm
Location: Hindmarsh Square to Elder Park
Cost: Free
This year the Parade and Concert have joined forces to make Australia Day in the City. See giant characters, floats, marching bands and roving performers alongside community groups and proud Aussies.
Australia Day in Darwin
Australia Day Fun Run Walk
Begins: 6am
Mindil Beach, Gilruth Ave, Darwin
Choose to take a 3km or 5km Run or Walk starting and ending at Mindil Beach, Darwin for your chance to win a hand crafted pendant worth $1,000 - then join in the free Sausage Sizzle afterwards.
Australia Day in Brisbane
Australia Day Festival
Begins: 10am
South Bank Parklands, Little Stanley Street, South Bank
Head to the South Bank in Brisbane for a jam-packed program of events, workshop activities, entertainment and Aussie celebrations.
Multi-Faith Ceremony
Begins: 9am
Location: Suncorp Piazza, Little Stanley Street, The Parklands, South Bank
The Queensland Government invites the public to experience a vibrant and diverse gathering of religious groups from across Queensland. The theme is "Heal the World" and will incorporate multi-faith prayers and messages of unity, peace and harmony for Australia Day.
Australia Day in Perth
Lotterywest Skyworks 2009
Begins: 9pm
Location: Perth Foreshore
Cost: Free
This spectacular free fireworks display above the Perth skyline is the largest in the nation, attracting over 300,000 people to the shores of the Swan River and numerous vantage points in South Perth and Kings Park.
Oz Concert 2008
Begins: 8pm
Location: Government House Gardens
More than 250 performers will take part at this event, including The Yabu Band joined by the Oz Choir,, Russian Folk Group Rusichi, Indonesian Community Dancers, Scottish Highland Dance Academy accompanied by a traditional bagpiper, the Chung Wah Dance Troupe and Australia’s only true shanty and sea-song band The Windjammers.
Australia Day in Tasmania
A Day on the Beach
Begins: 10am
Location: Kingston Beach, The Esplanade, Kingston
This family event hosts free sporting activities, live music, a sandcastle competition, double decker busses, sailing, swimming, the Lady Nelson under sail and the pristine backdrop of Kingston Beach.
The Splash Australia Day Festival
Date: Saturday, 23 January 2010 - Tuesday, 26 January 2010
Location: Bridport and surrounds, Dorset Council
A fantastic combination of events happening over a very long Australia Day weekend.
Fly a trapeze, climb the mobile rock-climbing wall, walk on stilts or enjoy all the fun of the Splash of Circus and Splash of Movies.
