This moveable herb gardening system is built to house bags of potting mix in which plants can be grown directly.

Built mostly from treated pine the system includes a potting bench with slatted top plus shelf, a tray, a planter box and a trellis-backed planter.

THE BASIC CONSTRUCTION
The step-by-step instructions are for making the potting bench, with a slat top and shelf that fits around the legs.

Follow the cutting list to build the tray and planter using the same method of construction, adding longer back legs to make the trellis.

TO CUT THE PARTS use a tablesaw to cut 42 x 19mm treated pine in half along the grain for the bench rails and tray base cleats then use a power or hand mitresaw to cut the other parts to length.

Smooth with 180 grit abrasive paper and reseal all the cut edges with timber preservative.

MAKE A PLANTER WITH TRELLIS
Use 31 x 31mm treated pine for the top rail and back legs then secure the rails. Position a screw eye 10mm from the top on one side and 100mm on the other then 200mm apart to thread 6mm shock cord, tying it off at the ends.
