Since the Rising Sun Anger Release Bar in eastern China sprang up, that’s when.
The bar in the city of Nanjing offers customers an unusual outlet for anger. The clientele is able to beat up staff, smash glasses, shout and scream – for a price. “Pressure in today’s society comes from just about anywhere... we get no place to vent our anger,” Nanjing salesman Chen Liang told the China Daily. The bar employs 20 well-built men in their 20s and 30s who have agreed to be hit.
Maybe those angry punters would be better served by a new Kiwi idea to curb excess drinking. Some bars in New Zealand have introduced a penalty system, flashing red and yellow penalty cards at drunks, just like a football referee. Yellow means you’re heading for trouble and red says, “Get out of here – you’re too drunk.”
There’s a bonus: if you leave the bar with good grace, you can return with your red card on your next visit and get a free drink. Bottoms up.
