‘I laid out the timber slats on the garage floor and created the curved design in chalk, using a compound mitresaw to shorten every second slat.
 
‘I bolted two upright frames on the inside of the entrance columns to attach the slats, using a belt to hold up one end while I drilled and secured the other end, and joined each slat to the one above for strength.
 
‘I was so proud of what I achieved all by myself,’ says Carol, who finished her $250 project by attaching chrome house numbers.
