Travelling With Pets

Travelling with a four-legged friend can be a challenge. Here are some tips for a safe trip:

By air Reserve early, and ask about weight limits. Pets cannot be carried in the main cabin – they must ride in crates in the cargo hold. Your fur-class passenger should be healthy and vaccinations up-to-date. If the pet is nervous, your vet may prescribe anti-anxiety medication, but never sedate your pooch.

By car If Fifi gets carsick, ask the vet about drugs that might help. Keep your pet in a carrier or pet seat belt (harness) – a loose animal could hurt itself or a passenger in a crash or emergency stop. Take breaks every few hours, and never leave an animal alone in the car – especially in very hot or cold weather.

Finally, if you won’t be able to spend much time with your dog on a trip, think about leaving him or her at home with a sitter.
