MUSICAL: Mamma Mia! An adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, featuring songs by ABBA and starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. The plot centres around a bride-to-be trying to find her real father. July 10.

COMIC BOOK: The Dark Knight The second instalment of the re-energised Batman franchise, this time featuring the late Heath Ledger as the Joker and Christian Bale back as Batman. July 17

ACTION: Hancock An alcoholic superhero (Will Smith), despised by all, receives rehabilitation advice from a publicist... only to begin an affair with the publicist’s wife (Charlize Theron). July 3.

COMEDY: The Love Guru Mike Myers plays Pitka, who returns to his native America, after being tutored and raised by Indian gurus, to break into the self-help business. In cinemas July 10.

Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones (who won an Oscar) play women on death row in 1920s Chicago, fighting for fame to keep them from the gallows.

Cabaret (1972)
A nightclub entertainer (Liza Minnelli) in 1930s Berlin romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them. It won eight Oscars, although it missed out on the Best Picture award.

West Side Story (1961)
This Oscar-winning musical follows two young lovers with ties to opposing New York gangs.
