| RD Editor on 10 February 2012 ,14:14 Hi Theresa, yes you can paint over wallpaper, particularly if the wall paper is really well stuck. Before painting splice off any lifting seams and patch and repair as for any other surface. You can apply a stain block over the water marked areas but it's also best to prime the surface with an oil-based primer. Paint with a flat paint which will help hide irregularities. Before undertaking your fix talk to a wall paper supply specialist for their advice on the best procedures and alternatives. Kind regards, Handyman Editor |
| Theresa Stockdale on 27 January 2012 ,14:29 I have a 1930s house. The ceiling in the dining room has been papered, seemed well stuck, but has some old watermarks and some small cracks. Could anything be done without pulling the wallpaper off? Will paint cover the stains or be too heavy and pull the paper off the ceiling? |
