Repairing holes in plasterboard using a backing piece4
Small holes in plasterboard can be repaired in the same way as in plaster. Medium-sized holes – up to about 125mm across – need to be fitted with a backing piece to block the cavity before they are filled with plaster filler. Larger holes, or a severely damaged surface, cannot be satisfactorily repaired with a filler. The damaged section must be removed and a new piece of plasterboard nailed to the frame and properly finished.
