How to Grow Silverbeet

Silverbeet is also known as chard. It’s grown for the edible, green leaves although some varieties are grown for the roots. Low in saturated fat and cholesterol, high in dietary fi bre and vitamins A, C, E and K, it’s a staple of the Mediterranean diet. Cook after picking as the shiny, green leaves with coloured stems are perishable and wilt quickly.

The easy-growing seeds during the cooler months.
Grow
To harvest young leaves for salads, or pick mature leaves with tougher stems to boil or saute.
TIP: If allowed to go to seed, the garden will end up full of beet.
