Moments of bravery
We asked our readers to tell us about a time they had to be brave. Here are some of their inspiring, funny, and moving answers.
From Reader's Digest
I saw a woman being pushed and shouted at by her boyfriend. I rushed across the road and confronted him. He let her go and drove off.
-Ms J Nagle
My daughter got caught in a rip. I was pregnant but the only one there to save her.
-Mrs D Hobman
I stood up for myself to the boss (who was a workplace bully) and walked off the job.
-Mr G Shaw
When I rescued my baby son from choking, I had to really compose myself to get him out of his highchair and perform CPR.
-Mrs H Thompson
I stepped into a heated argument between a group of youths, who were about to get violent with another young person. I talked them out of doing anything silly, allowing the victim to make his retreat. But afterwards I was very shaky, when I realised that I had actually put my own saftey in jeopardy!
-Ms J Baker
I stood up to an abusive partner and kicked him out of my door and my life. I felt scared, but proud of myself.
-Ms L Durham
I smacked a cockroach to death the other night, instead of screaming for my flatmate to do it for me.
-Ms K Wong
I was at a party and a man started beating his wife. I stepped in the middle and asked him to stop it. Giving the woman time to get away and call the police.
-Ms K O'Brien
One early morning I came across a car that had crashed and landed upside down on train tracks. We were in the middle of nowhere so I climbed down and pulled out the lady who was trapped inside.
-Ms R Coleman
Today my little ones screamed 'Snake!' from the backyard. I went running to find a giant worm. Bravely I placed it back in the garden bed.
-Ms T McBride

| Jennifer Shaw on 07 August 2012 ,08:07 As a teenager I was walking home along a dark street at night after going to the movies. A man started following me in his car. He jumped out of his car and tried to force a tablet into my mouth and to drag me to his car. I screamed and 2 joggers heard me and ran to my aid. He jumped back in his car and drove off. |
