Reader project - Paul's new courtyard

He says, ‘I did a lot of planting but was then away a lot and ended up renting out my home.’

 

New tenants coincided with the worst drought in 35 years and Paul’s high water-maintenance garden didn’t stand a chance. ‘It was clear I needed to rethink the space for my lifestyle.’

 

To create a low-care area, plants were stripped back and replaced with yuccas, grasses and succulents, and garden beds created with river stone and pebbles. The painted paling fence was updated with sturdy nature reed panels secured with brass screws.

 

‘Now the garden is virtually maintenance free and it’s a relaxing place for an afternoon barbie.’
