My seven-year-old grandson Lucas was told off at school for fighting but commended for spelling on the same day. He asked his mother whether she wanted the good news or the bad news. She chose the good news and was delighted when he showed her his spelling results. However, when she asked for the bad news, Lucas told her, “You only get one choice.”

Our four-year-old granddaughter, Sara, called to invite us for dinner. I asked her what they were having and she said, “Chinese.” When I told her that her grandfather didn’t like Chinese food, she paused, then yelled, “Mum! Grandpa doesn’t like Chinese. What else can we call it?”
