How to make a rail housing
Housings are grooves cut across the grain that fit around three sides of a beam and can be made with a series of close relief cuts. Rail posts for a deck can require a housing joint to fit a joist.
●1 MARK THE HOUSING on the top and sides of the post. Loosen the depth adjuster of the saw, hold the baseplate firmly against the post and move the blade until the teeth touch the line then tighten the depth adjuster.●2 MAKE CUTS inside the housing markings then make additional cuts every 10 to 20mm along the housing.
●3 BREAK OUT THE WASTE then use a chisel to smooth the housing.
