Replacing a Sheet of Galvanised Steel, Measure up and calculate the number of sheets of roofing you’ll need, allowing for any overlaps

STEP 1

Clean area with a wire brush or abrasive paper. Wipe area with solvent and allow to dry. Cut a patch to cover the area plus 50mm all around if using fibreglass, 50mm longer for a metal patch.

Replacing a Sheet of Galvanised Steel, Wearing a pair of stout gloves, lift the free edge of the old sheet and slide it downwards

STEP 2

For a fibreglass patch, apply a thin coat of mixed resin to the gutter with a paintbrush, as shown. Be careful not totouch the resin. For a metal patch, spread a 3mm layer of sealant with a putty knife.

Replacing a Sheet of Galvanised Steel, Place a straightedge across the gap where the new sheet will go and mark the centre line of each batten on the roofing at either side in pencil, so you know the line that nails or screws must take.

STEP 3

Press patch into adhesive with a rag. Fibreglass – apply a thin coat of resin over patch, wait 24 hours, sand, and apply another coat. Metal – rivet patch both ends; spread sealant over edges and let dry.
