Rollout Kitchen Pantry
Increase the usable storage space in your kitchen with easy-to-access rollouts

Increase the usable storage space in your kitchen with easy-to-access rollouts. Rollout pantry shelves are a practical solution to crowded kitchen cupboards. These plywood boxes are easy to build and use shelf supports for adjustable shelves. They’re mounted on drawer slides, available from hardware stores. Lower kitchen cupboards tend to offer the most storage space, but the back half is often wasted as it’s difficult to reach and see into. Rollout shelving ensures groceries are visible, utilising the entire space. |

STEP 1
Measure the spacing
Place some groceries on the base to space the dividing cleats accordingly. Use 19 mm spacers to allow for door clearance, and allow a further 25 mm overall for drawer slide clearance.

STEP 2
Assemble the boxes
Nail the lip to the bottom shelf then glue and nail the sides and back panel together. Clean off glue with a damp cloth. TIP: Use 38 mm brads in a nail gun or 38 x 1.6 mm panel pins.

STEP 3
Drill the finger-pull holes
Using a 32 mm Forstner bit or spade bit, drill a hole horizontally centred and 120 mm from the top. TIP: Clamp a scrap block at the back to prevent breakout.

STEP 4
Fit the shelf supports
Cut shelf supports to length. Use 6 mm MDF spacers to position supports 25 mm in from the edges and parallel to them. Secure with fl at-head nails or 15 mm x 6 g screws.

STEP 5
Add the slides to cleats
Fasten the drawer slides to the cleats using 16 mm x 6 g screws. TIP: The runner should be flush with the top and front edges of the cleat.

STEP 6
Fasten the cleats
Use plywood offcuts, cut to the same width as the box, to hold cleats at the correct spacing. Predrill, glue and fix the cleats using 75 mm x 10 g screws.
