Sanding to refresh decking
The question of whether to clean or lightly sand the deck to remove the surface coat is one of condition.
If the deck is stained or oiled and needs minor repairs, sand it first then give it a good clean with a pressure cleaner to thoroughly prepare the surface for refi nishing. If the deck has been painted and needs to be prepped, use a random orbital sander fitted with an 80 grit disc, working across two boards at a time to make your way across the deck.
TIP If the nail holes were filled and the putty has popped out, refill and lightly sand with 180 grit abrasive paper.
