How to build a weatherproof bench
Use treated plywood and pine to build designer outdoor benches.

DIY - $320 (Have one made for $720)
Skill - 4/10
Time - 1 day
Storage furniture for outdoors tends to be weather-resistant but not waterproof. But these 450mm-high, 1200mm-long pergola benches have been designed with a sealed lid so they can store cushions when not in use. Heavy-duty rubber castors give them mobility.
OUTDOOR MATERIALS
The internal box is made from exterior-grade plywood, which should be cut by the supplier for accurate assembly. Light organic solvent preservative (LOSP) pine and V-joint boards clad the box.
All joints are sealed with polyurethane adhesive and surfaces protected with two coats of Dulux Natural White Weathershield exterior paint. The elastic lid stays are hatch closers designed for yachts and can be bought from ship chandlers such as Whitworths.
