Their opinions are valued and their voices speak for those who can’t. It’s no wonder, above all other professions, that doctors have earned our trust in 2022. Professions that provide life-saving services have consistently filled the top five most trusted positions each year. So it’s no surprise that this year the other professions to rate in the top five are: 2. nurses, 3. paramedics, 4. firefighters and 5. pharmacists. The poll asked participants to nominate the profession they trust the most. Although the list changes from year to year, professions such as doctors, paramedics, nurses and firefighters are constants in the top five. The next most trusted professions are pharmacists, police officers, scientists, teachers, vets and then farmers. This is followed by pilots, dentists, members of the armed forces, social workers, psychologists/counsellors and supermarket workers. At the bottom of the pack are journalists, professional actors, professional sports people, social media producers and politicians. In what has been a year in which doctors carried the burden of the pandemic’s health crisis, it’s clear to see how doctors – and not politicians – have been voted the most trusted profession in Australia in 2022.
